We are convinced of the axiom that if you educate a man, you help only an individual, but if you educate a woman, you help a whole family. In the Indian context, among poor families, this is particularly true. Indian women are culturally conditioned to share more responsibilities right from their childhood. They developed higher levels of adaptation and tolerance than their male counterparts. Hence, we lay special emphasis on women's organizations and their leadership development.
However, our skills training programs are open to both men and women and we have a number of men enrolled in them.
Our computer classes are especially popular with both genders.
The Need
NLMET seeks to empower destitute and underprivileged men & women so as to realize their true self-worth and give them skills that would enable them to be self sufficient. This is achieved through a self contained training unit offering relevant training courses run by encouraging staff.
The Work
The centre aims to equip people from marginalized background to nurture and thrive. There is a strong emphasis on developing "life skills" as well as basic education and skills training.
As part of our vision to build sustainable communities, the tailoring unit & e academy is foundational block in the work done with the local community. The unit trains and identifies the men and women from the community who would be most likely to benefit from the training and who have a demonstrated need and aptitude in the chosen skill.
Tailoring classes & computer classes are conducted for the boys & girls who come from economically backward classes. We provide a 6 months course in pattern cutting, and stitching in the tailoring course & topics on basic computing, graphics, web designing, tally and programming in our computer classes.
