NLMET supports the holistic view of education as outlined as the four 'pillars' in the report to UNESCO of the International Commission on Education for The Twenty-first Century.
learning to know
learning to do
learning to be
learning to live together
Quality, affordable education is unattainable for the vast number of children who live in urban slums. Parental desire to educate their children in the medium of English which is the business language in the nation of India creates a large need for the provision of affordable comprehensive pre primary education. Our goal is to provide affordable holistic education
Balwadi is a pre school non formal education program. The Balwadis we run in the city of Mumbai provide the slum children with a bridge program that enables them to mainstream into formal government run education institutions. It also facilitates children with both physical and learning disabilities.
NLMET works with marginalized women in the underprivileged communities who want to make a difference in their lives and make a positive contribution to their families and communities. NLMET offers them a course which enables them to learn conversational English and basic reading and writing skills. This makes a significant contribution to empowering the women to gain sustainable employment, pursue further education.
Our vision 2020 includes providing 100,000 children across the 100 postal codes in Mumbai with the preschool 'bridge' programs of the balwadi in order to access elementary education.
